Brass Band Workshops | Rehearsals | Contest Preparation
Alongside my professional career as a trumpet player and Professor at the Guidhall School of Music and Drama, I have spent my whole life in the brass band world, working with bands across all sections, including some of the finest bands in the UK. I have also acted as an adjudicator at The National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall, The British Open and Brass in Concert.
The workshops are based on the theory of marginal gains. Improving each individual through an organised practice routine will have a marked improvement on the intonation and sound of the whole band.
The workshops are conducted in a relaxed manner, working collectively with the whole band, discussing and practising breathing, posture and articulation.
I’m available for single 2-hour workshops, full-day band development sessions and contest preparation consultations.

Kevin Smith, Musical Director, Verwood Concert Brass
Paul’s workshop was hugely enlightening and enjoyable. His explanation and demonstration of good breathing, posture and articulation are now constantly being used by myself and the bands in our rehearsals and performances. For all four bands that attended, from Championship level to Community Band, everyone took away many positives.
